Twenty years back I have lived behind the iron curtain and we dreamt about visiting these “exotic” places. Now we just book a flight and go there. It’s a strange world we live in, isn’t it? Constantly changing.

A friend of mine once said: “Nothing endures but change.” So true.

Well, make sure you keep following my travel blog, my Flickr photostream and the maps.

Follow the typical signs, the hand-painted lines, down prairie roads.
Pass the lone church spire. Pass the talking wire from where to who knows?

There’s no way to divide the beauty of the sky from the wild western
plains. Where a man could drift, in legendary myth, by roaming over
spaces. The land was free and the price was right.

Dakota on the wall is a white-robed woman, broad yet maidenly. Such
power in her hand as she hails the wagon man’s family. I see Indians
that crawl through this mural that recalls our history.

Who were the homestead wives? Who were the gold rush brides? Does
anybody know? Do their works survive their yellow fever lives in the pages
they wrote? The land was free, yet it cost their lives.

In miner’s lust for gold, a family’s house was bought and sold, piece
by piece. A widow staked her claim on a dollar and his name, so
painfully.

In letters mailed back home her Eastern sisters they would moan as
they would read accounts of madness, childbirth, loneliness and grief.

As I’m into Silverlight now I was wondering if someone had already done the same thing in Silverlight or if I should start my own app.

What dou you think?

Silvermap would be kind of a cool name, aye?

(2) Was genau ist deren (einhellige) Meinung?

Jens-Christian Henke

Pussies think everyone can get along, and dicks just wanna fuck all the time without thinking it through. But then you got your assholes, Chuck. And all the assholes want is to shit all over everything! So, pussies may get mad at dicks once in a while, because… pussies get fucked by dicks. But dicks also-fuck-assholes, Chuck. And if they didn’t fuck the assholes, you know what you’d get? You’d get your dick and your pussy all covered in shit!

On an airliner:Â

The roominess of it all.

The food.

The idle time while waiting / standing in the aisle.

Duty-free / Tax-free shopping (yes, I almost always get myself a bottle of Whiskey on my journey back home)

Old in-flight entertainment.

The comforting feeling of being in complete control.

Adjustable air nozzles.

Watching someone attempt to close the overhead bin at least 15 times before giving up and letting the attendant deal with it.

Some idiot closing the overhead bin whilst empty and pretending it’s all packed up!Â

Ear-popping fun.

Enjoying the quality of public transport.

Quality reflection time.

Fumes.

So this is why I want to do it myself:

Planning the flight yourself.

Starting up the engine. (You have to feel that yourself!)

Freedom.

Enjoying the view (and not seeing only the clouds below).

The mere fun of it.

Pulling 3+ Gs while turning final.

The feeling in your stomach while flaring and settling the plane on the runway. (And the looks of the passenger).

I try to stand tall
You roll your eyes
You feel the same way I do
To my surprise
I feel this weird drowning in the deepest sea
You die your gun just like me.

Still your eyes are staring at me
Empty as the sky
In this Moment of Tranquility

Thinking back on how I started with all this IT stuff, back in my early days, about 15 years ago… Goo’ol time! Back then we had Z80 processors with 64k of RAM, BASIC was a high level programming language. I started programming the hard way, first steps were in BASIC – for about 1 year – and after that I went straight to Assembler. No compilers, just a code table converting the Assembler instructions to plain hex numbers. Performance optimization was done with calculators, simply add the number of CPU cycles needed for a certain part of you code and see if you find a solution which is faster.

Compared to the BASIC code the performance was unbelievable. I think it could even catch up with modern apps because you wouldn’t need as much crap as there is today in the apps. Who knows what the IT world would be like if Novell had been the Microsoft of the 80s. Or IBM. Or Linus Torvalds had been Bill Gates. Never mind.

Looking out to a future 15 years from now, maybe this comic will be reality. I hope not. Not in my airplane. If you click yes, be prepared to be thrown out of the airplane (while up at 35000ft) – no questions asked!

But if I remember back when the Intel Pentium was brand new:

This was featured in an article on the german online magazine Telepolis.
If a call centre agent is getting on your nerves and tries to sell you something, maybe you should try this.
